In the Boardroom with…
President, AMAG Technology, Inc.
SecuritySolutionsWatch.com: Thank you for joining us again today, Matt, and, congratulations on your appointment as President of AMAG Technology! There have been many positive and significant developments at AMAG since our first chat together in March 2012. Before drilling down into the latest news at AMAG, what are your thoughts on taking over the helm at AMAG Technology at a time of unprecedented security challenges?
Matt Barnette: Thank you for having me. It’s been an exciting and busy time for myself and AMAG as we transition into this new chapter. I have been fortunate enough to have stepped into this role from a position of strength. Bob Sawyer set this company up for success with its go-to-market strategy, highly qualified staff and product vision for the future. I am hoping to expand on that success.
There are certainly security challenges today, and AMAG has taken steps to work through those, as well as has a plan moving forward. Our Symmetry SR product is helping hundreds of end users facing legacy challenges to save money and upgrade their systems easily. We’ve been working on that for three years and our VP of Business Development, Jody Ross, detailed our vision in her interview earlier this year.
Moving forward, AMAG is now offering our Symmetry OneFacility cloud based platform that provides safety, security and risk management capabilities for the Financial Services sector and other market segments where safety and security are a priority. Symmetry OneFacility offers cost-effective, enterprise compliance with internal and external regulatory controls.
SecuritySolutionsWatch.com: One will read on AMAG.com that, “Symmetry Access Control and Video Management combine and expand to create a truly integrated Security Management System which is a great choice for organizations of any size”. Please give us an overview of the Products and Solutions AMAG brings to market.
Matt Barnette: The Symmetry access control and video management system has evolved over the years becoming a total solution for organizations large and small wanting to consolidate many systems into one. And to meet complex compliance and risk management requirements, we’ve merged the development efforts of our Symmetry and Symmetry OneFacility teams to blend the features of these powerful platforms into one comprehensive product portfolio. If you look at our product offering, we break it down into these categories: A totally integrated security management software platform, Symmetry; a Video hardware platform offering IP cameras and encoders; and an access control hardware platform including panels and readers.
This month we will be releasing Symmetry V8. Symmetry V8 delivers upgraded video and access control capabilities that improve video performance, adds functionality, and supports current industry technologies and newly released AMAG products. Symmetry V8 adds an ONVIF Profile S camera software plug-in, greatly expanding camera support under Symmetry. Symmetry Video Management includes an improved Identity Verification module that supports up to three cameras per location with integrated intercom support, making it ideal for areas that need increased video surveillance. Additional features include a cardholder vacation calendar and temporary card features preventing unauthorized access.
End users can now manage security alarms with our new SymmetryWEB client software. SymmetryWEB allows an unlimited number of users to use the Symmetry™ access control software and manage specific functions from a web interface which requires no software installation. The new alarm management features offer a dynamic view of all new and updated alarms. Security personnel can receive real-time alarm updates, see instructions, enter comments, and clear alarms via SymmetryWEB. They can also add new access cards or view existing employee records direct from the alarm screen. Users can access the Symmetry access control software from anywhere with a web connection to the Symmetry server using a standard web browser from a desktop workstation or mobile device such as a smartphone or a tablet.
AMAG’s Symmetry High Definition Network Cameras are designed to complement the Symmetry Security Management System. All of the cameras in the range include built-in advanced motion detection as standard, and contain an option to turn on high quality video content analytics right inside the cameras themselves. Alarms from the cameras can automatically trigger commands throughout Symmetry, thus enhancing the security capabilities.
And last, probably the most important product as part of this launch is the Symmetry EN-2DBC controller. The EN-2DBC offers a flexible, easy to install controller option for organizations looking to deploy a distributed IP-based access control system. It is a state-of-the-art security appliance which supports SNMP network monitoring. The EN-2DBC is suitable for large new systems, small systems of only a few doors or expanding existing Symmetry installations. The EN-2DBC supports two doors and can utilize Power over Ethernet (and PoE+), where installers need to run only a single Ethernet cable that carries both power and data to the controller, reducing installation costs. Of course, the EN-2DBC can still be powered the traditional way with a dedicated power supply. One of the areas where the EN-2DBC is unique is that the small plastic enclosure is plenum fire rated which makes it suitable for mounting in ceilings close to doors, and it also fits inside standard UL rated steel enclosures – so it is really flexible for many different types of projects.
